Secret is the 8th studio album (CD + DVD) by Japanese pop singer-songwriter Ayumi Hamasaki, released by Avex Trax on 29 November 2006 in Japan. The CD features 14 tracks including the smash songs 'Startin'' (opening theme of the Capcom PS2 game Shin Onimusha DAWN OF DREAMS), 'Born To Be' (featured in the NTV program Torino), as well as 'BLUE BIRD' and 'Beautiful Fighters' (from Ayumi's 40th double A-sided single) and the Panasonic CM songs '1 LOVE' and 'JEWEL'. The accompanying DVD features 14 tracks including the PVs of 'Startin'' and 'BLUE BIRD', as well as making of clips of 'Beautiful Fighters' and '1 LOVE' plus other treats.
Even though Ayumi welcomed others to find out about her secret in this Secret album, she further elaborated:
"But it's not a secret in the sense that "I'm about to disclose something you didn't know!" Instead, it could be about "me" in my daily life, or it could be about you… Everyone keeps secrets; there is not one person on this planet who does not have at least one secret, nor is there a person who can tell others everything about him or herself. Even when you try to understand others (or to have a mutual understanding with others), there is always a "you" that only you know about. I have aspects that only certain people know about and aspects that everyone knows about. That's what I call a secret. And in this sense, there are secrets incorporated into this album."
'Momentum' took Ayumi a total of four days to record. This is the longest amount of time she has ever taken to record a song in her whole career. Usually, she goes into the studio and records a song very quickly, but with 'Momentum' she had been spending so much time in the recording booth that she felt like she might as well have slept there. Ayumi stated that listening to the song now reminded her the strenuous recording and brings tears to her eyes.
Ayumi stated that she was almost in tears when she finished recording the last song 'Secret' because she actually managed to extend a 7 tracks mini-album into a full length 14 tracks studio album in just a couple of weeks.

Secret is a well-balanced album comprising of both positive and negative songs. Pretty amazed that she can produce and composed an additional of 7 songs in such a short period of time! Despite this rush, there's no flaw identified at all! Well done, Ayumi!!!
